From the late 1940s to the early 1960s, the Japan Jacket was sold as a souvenir to American soldiers stationed in Japan and their families, and in Japan it is commonly known as a Sukajan. It is characterized by the different colors on the reverse side, and is famous for the embroidery of a tiger, cranes, and the Japanese archipelago on the chest and back. Originally sold to Americans during the Korean War, the jackets later evolved into Vietnam tour jackets and commemorative jackets with their own embroidery and year.

The jacket presented here was made in Japan in the 1950s and has a reversible construction with a blue side with tiger embroidery and a light red side with Fuji and birds. Unfortunately, the zipper is damaged and will not close. It needs to be repaired. It is stained in places, but since it is reversible, you can wear whichever you prefer. The knit is damaged. The waist ribbing is stretched, influenced by the shape of American-made flight jackets. It is quite small in size, so it would be perfect for collections or for women to wear. It is a good old, handmade jacket and is still in good condition to be enjoyed. It is a used item and cannot be returned. Please understand.
