This is an early ERDL jacket made from non-ripstop fabric—a style that first appeared during the early stages of the Vietnam War and remains highly sought after by collectors. It is a rare piece.

This item is believed to be an early model manufactured around 1966–1967. It predates the transition to the later ripstop fabric and is characterized by the soft texture unique to cotton poplin and its rich, deep print.

ERDL (Engineer Research and Development Laboratory) camouflage is known as the U.S. military’s first full-scale leaf-pattern camouflage, which served as the prototype for the later Woodland camouflage. Early non-ripstop versions, in particular, are prized for their excellent color vibrancy, with the striking contrast between vivid light green and brown standing out.

Furthermore, this jacket is a Marine Corps issue piece featuring a USMC stencil on the chest pocket.

During the Vietnam War, ERDL camouflage was initially issued on a limited basis, and examples of its use by the Marine Corps are particularly rare. The stencil, which evokes the sense of actual combat use by combat units, lends this jacket a genuine military history and a strong presence.

Although the size tag is missing, the instruction label remains intact. Another appealing feature is that you can clearly see the details characteristic of early ERDL.

In recent years, the number of early ERDL non-ripstop jackets available on the market has been decreasing year by year, and those bearing USMC markings are becoming particularly rare.

The jacket shows overall signs of wear, with fading and minor damage visible. However, it is precisely this character that embodies the unique charm of military wear that actually survived the Vietnam War era.

Combining the appealing elements of early ERDL, non-ripstop fabric, and USMC stencils, this is a highly collectible piece.
