Jungle Green Tropical Combat Trousers, emblematic of the Australian military during the Vietnam War.

This particular pair was manufactured in 1967 and clearly bears the text “YAKKA PTY. LTD. / 1967 VICTORIA / SIZE 18” on the inner government-issued label. The Australian War Memorial also houses a similar pair of Jungle Green Combat Trousers manufactured by YAKKA in 1967, confirming that these are authentic Australian military uniforms from the Vietnam War era.

Australia’s military involvement in the Vietnam War began with the deployment of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam in 1962, followed by the deployment of the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment as a combat unit in 1965. In 1966, the force expanded into the 1st Australian Task Force, which operated primarily in Phuoc Tuy Province, using Nui Dat as its base. The year 1967, when this item was manufactured, coincides precisely with the period when the Australian Army was conducting full-scale operational activities in Vietnam.

Furthermore, the details on these pants are exceptionally interesting.

The olive-to-jungle-green cotton fabric features deep pleats at the front, side adjuster straps, cargo pockets with flaps, and a back flap pocket. The waistband also features a wide, button-fastened belt-like detail, conveying the Australian Army’s unique functional beauty—distinct from the U.S. Army’s tropical combat trousers of the same era.

Furthermore, the size is SIZE 18. The wide silhouette—which falls straight from the roomy waist—is incredibly appealing and exudes a unique presence characteristic of the Australian Army.

The condition is also worth noting. The fabric retains its very deep color, and with almost no visible signs of wear, it is in excellent condition—likely unused. Considering it was manufactured in 1967, a piece where the fabric, details, and label have remained this pristine is one that can be thoroughly enjoyed as a collector’s item.

1960s Australian military uniforms offer a distinct appeal different from that of U.S. military gear, and when viewed within the historical context of the Vietnam War, they represent a genre of great depth. In fact, the Australian War Memorial houses a 1967 YAKKA jungle green two-piece set, which can be considered one of the iconic Australian military tropical uniforms of that era.

1967, YAKKA, SIZE 18, and in excellent condition.
These are incredibly charming fatigues that perfectly capture the atmosphere of the Australian military during the Vietnam War era.
