The M-65 is often considered the pinnacle of U.S. military field jackets. Here, we introduce the “1st Model,” which remains exceptionally popular even after its long history and enjoys overwhelming support from collectors.
Adopted in 1965, the M-65 field jacket was developed as cold-weather combat gear, building on the legacy of its predecessors, the M-43 and M-51. Due to its exceptional design, it has continued to influence numerous brands and designers to this day.
Based on its tags and details, this item is an extremely rare piece that can be identified as an early production model from around 1965–66.The most distinctive feature of the 1st Model is the absence of epaulets (shoulder straps), which were omitted in later models. Furthermore, the inside of the collar features a hood storage compartment with an aluminum zipper, faithfully preserving specifications unique to early production.
Furthermore, the fabric combines cotton satin OG-107—specific to the early M-65—with nylon, offering a suppleness and high-quality texture distinct from later models.
Above all, its condition is truly remarkable.
As you can see from the photos, the fabric shows almost no signs of wear, and the color retains its deep olive green hue. The Velcro on the cuffs, the buttons throughout, and the zippers are all in excellent condition, suggesting that it was likely used for only a very short period.
While many 1st Model jackets on the market show heavy wear and damage, this item is in such excellent condition that it could easily be mistaken for deadstock.
Furthermore, it is the popular SMALL-LONG size.It fits the Japanese physique very well and is a rare size with a beautiful balance in length. This early model is the most collectible among M-65s, and finding a piece in such excellent condition is becoming increasingly difficult with each passing year. We confidently recommend this jacket not only to military collectors but also to anyone looking for an M-65 to last a lifetime.
