This is the M-1950 Overwhite Parka, a quintessential example of the winter camouflage gear developed and adopted by the U.S. military during the Korean War. Size: SMALL. In a sense, you could call this the winter camouflage version of a Mods coat.
This item is from the initial production run under the contract dated March 24, 1953. The label clearly retains the inscription “PARKA, FIELD, OVERWHITE, M-1950,” and it is an extremely rare piece in virtually unused condition. Some discoloration due to age is visible.
The M-1950 Snow Parka is a camouflage outer garment developed to conceal a soldier’s silhouette in snowy plains and snow-covered areas. Designed to be worn over standard field jackets and cold-weather gear, it is characterized by a loose, oversized silhouette. It was one of the pieces of equipment improved based on experiences from cold-weather combat during the Korean War, and it maximized its camouflage effectiveness in snow-covered mountainous regions and plains.
Made from lightweight yet durable cotton and featuring drawstrings at the waist and hem, it boasts a functional design built for combat use. The integrated hood design boasts a level of refinement that foreshadowed later mod coats and snow camo parkas, and it remains extremely popular in the modern fashion scene.
In particular, the M-1950 is much rarer than the later M-1951 and M-1965 models, and early examples from the 1953 contract are rarely seen even on the collector’s market. In recent years, it has been increasingly reevaluated not only as vintage military wear but also as an overcoat and layering piece.
Another appealing feature is that, rather than being pure white, the color has changed slightly to a natural off-white hue over the course of more than 70 years. It possesses a vintage character that cannot be found in new items, while also maintaining the pristine cleanliness unique to unused pieces.
Beyond its historical value as authentic U.S. military gear from the Korean War era, this is a highly refined piece of fashion. This is a deadstock M-1950 snow parka, which has become increasingly difficult to obtain in recent years.
